The world of worktops can be a confusing one… With so many options and features to choose from it can be difficult to find what will work for your project and if Porcelain worktops are the one for you. But don’t worry, we’re here to help! As providers of an array of surface materials, we know our stuff when it comes to surfaces. After all, we are one of the top and the UK exclusive distributor of Atlas Plan.
To help you make the decision on which surface is right for you we’ve put together a list of the main benefits to using Porcelain so you can easily see if it’s the right fit for you.
Porcelain is a material made from non-porous ceramic clay and a mix of minerals such as silica and kaolinite. The material is mixed and baked at high temperatures. Together, the mix and baking produces a versatile and durable material that is very hard wearing.
Porcelain as a raw material is priced similar to most quartz. It has minimal upkeep costs and the longevity you get from the material makes this a cost-effective option.
Natural stone has inconsistencies in pattern as this is formed by nature, so although they may look stunning the finished look from batch to batch and even slab to slab can differ greatly. As Porcelain is a man-made material, this ensures uniformity across each slab which makes the finished product consistent and flowing which is especially beneficial where more SqM is required.
There are no limitations when it comes to colours or patterns, as porcelain is man-made it can be manufactured in various styles unlike natural stone.
Porcelain is resistant to ultraviolet light which means it won’t fade from sunlight so this is a great choice for south facing kitchens and outdoor spaces.
This material is very hard wearing so it can withstand more than natural stone. For example, it is heat resistant, meaning it can withstand the high heat of kitchen appliances. Although, as with all surfaces we recommend you avoid unnecessary exposure to high heats and extremes. This durability makes Porcelain worktops a great pick for the kitchen.
As the surface is 0.01% porous it won’t absorb water or spillages like Marble would, which makes Porcelain a great option for kitchens and bathrooms as water won’t damage the material.
Due to the extremely low porous nature of Porcelain the material is highly stain and scratch resistant. As long as you look after your worktops and follow the Porcelain care guides then your surface will look as good as new for a long time to come.
The very low porous nature of Porcelain makes it one of the most antibacterial surfaces out there. Bacteria will not harbour or live beneath the surface or in any natural crevices, instead due to the flat surface it will remain on top so that it can be easily cleaned away.
